The Calendar Idea

The charity calendar, driven by humour and a sense of unity, represents the hard work of Phil Ward and his twelve teammates. Drawing from the 1999 Rylstone Women’s Institute Calendar featured in the film Calendar Girls, the Wanstead RFC team has shown how laughter and community involvement can lead to real help for those in need.

The team’s dedication to this project demonstrates the importance of innovative approaches to fundraising. Not only does it highlight their commitment, but it also inspires others to think creatively about how they can support similar causes.

Supporting the Sacred Heart Food Bank

The Sacred Heart Food Bank helps assist local families and individuals facing food insecurity. In the past year alone, the food bank has witnessed a 30% rise in demand due to economic pressures, making support from groups like Wanstead RFC increasingly essential.

The generous donation of £2,250 is set to provide vital essentials including:

  • Non-perishable food items: These are the backbone of any food bank, including canned vegetables and pasta.

  • Toiletries: Items like soap, shampoo, and toothbrushes that are often overlooked but necessary for dignity and health.

This contribution illustrates how sports organisations can leverage their platforms for meaningful community initiatives, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.

A Lasting Legacy of Community Spirit

Phil Ward, Paddy, and the rest of the Wanstead RFC team have perfectly embodied the spirit of community. Their innovative fundraising through the calendar has brought in much-needed funds and spotlighted the incredible work being done at the Sacred Heart Food Bank.

As we reflect on their achievement, it is crucial to acknowledge the collective effort we can all contribute to. Through creativity and community engagement, every individual has the potential to make a positive impact. Thank you, Wanstead RFC, for setting a shining example and encouraging everyone to find ways to support causes that truly matter. Every small act of kindness can lead to significant change.
