On Sunday, March 9th, Jo Giacon took to the streets for an inspiring sponsored half-marathon, running in honour of her family and in support of the Sacred Heart Food Bank. This remarkable event showcases Jo's dedication not just to her loved ones, but also to helping those in need within her community.
Jo’s journey kicked off at Trotters Bottom, just north of Barnet—the very spot where her parents first met. For Jo, this was more than just a physical challenge; it was a heartfelt tribute to her family legacy. The half-marathon spanned 21.1 kilometres and concluded at Sacred Heart Church, a place brimming with significance for Jo and her family.

Throughout her run, Jo was joined by her niece, Amy. They were later joined by Jo’s nephew, Peter, and Paul, a trustee of the foodbank, near the top of the Caledonian Road in Holloway. The family's presence served as a powerful motivator for Jo. Siblings and other relatives paced with her at various points, including the youngest family member, just four years old, who added a delightful splash of energy to the day.
After reaching the church, Jo and her family were welcomed warmly by Jackie Ugoala, another trustee of the food bank. The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie, showcasing the bonds formed when families and communities unite for a noble cause.
As of now, contributions toward Jo's run are still being collected, indicating the strong support within the community. Early reports show Jo has raised over £500 to date, a significant sum that will enhance the Sacred Heart Food Bank's capacity to support those in need. This financial support can assist in providing meals for many families facing food insecurity.
Jo Giacon's half-marathon serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and family ties. Events like this inspire others to engage with local initiatives and highlight the importance of giving back. Whether through fundraising, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness about organisations like the Sacred Heart Food Bank, everyone can make a meaningful contribution.
Ultimately, Jo’s run symbolised more than completing a half-marathon; it represented a heartfelt mission to uplift her family and the community. As sponsorship totals increase, it becomes clear that Jo Giacon’s determined strides honour her family while also providing vital support to those who are struggling in their daily lives.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Jo and her extended family for their commitment to this commendable cause. They set an inspiring example of how we can all contribute positively to our local communities.
Thank you, Jo, for running for a cause that truly matters!
